Juan Quezada's Potters from
Mata Ortiz Pueblo"
"Las Manos de la
Tierra"
(The Hands of the Earth)
On a recent trip to the Mata
Ortiz Pueblo which sits in a beautiful valley about 30 miles from the city of
Casas Grandes, Mexico in the State of Chihuahua we visited with Juan
Quezada, a world renowned master potter, his family and
fellow potters. Juan has personally trained his relatives and other village
friends in his pottery techniques. He provides the special clay and
pigments for the special pots created at Mata Ortiz under his
guidance.
We purchased
the pottery shown below from his brother, Nicholas, and fellow potters from Mata
Ortiz and are privileged to sell them on our SWDecor site. From the photo
above one can better visualize the relative size of each piece of pottery,
ranging from the large Nicholas Quezada 20 inch diameter pot to the 10 miniature
pots that are shown.
